Carlton-Sagadahoc Bridge

Carlton-Sagadahoc Bridge

The Carlton Bridge was built in 1927 to accommodate both cars and trains. It provided a much needed quick link over the Kennebec River for gravel and timber and other supplies that usually required a ferry. Replacing the Carlton is the graceful arch of the Sagadahoc Bridge, completed in August of 2000. The main span is the longest pre-cast segmental span built in the balanced cantilever fashion in the United States.
