Maine Maritime Museum

Wyoming was the largest commercial wooden sailing vessel ever built. She weighed 3730 tons, was 329 feet in length and cost $185,000. Designed by Bant Hanson and built under the watchful eye of master builder Miles Merry, Wyoming took less than nine months to complete. She launched on December 15, 1909, in a large celebration at the Percy and Small shipyard, the current site of the Maine Maritime Museum. She was sold in 1917 to the France & Canada Steamship Company for $350,000. Later sold to A.W. Frost & Company of Portland, Wyoming was lost with her crew of 13 on the Nantucket Shoals in 1924.
